Over the past few weeks, I keep getting asked about the best ways to market and sell art and photography in 2023. In all honesty, it is not too late if you did not have things sorted out by the end of last year; have a look at the checklist I have compiled for you below.

1. Build a strong online presence:

Create a website and social media accounts to showcase your art and attract potential customers. Use high-quality images of your work and provide detailed information about each piece.

2. Offer a variety of products:Selling art

In addition to traditional prints, consider offering other products such as canvas prints, metal prints, and even drinking mugs with your art on it.

3. Utilise online marketplaces:

Use online marketplaces such as Etsy, Not On The High Street and Artfinder, to reach a wider audience and sell your art prints with ease.

4. Network with other artists and photographers:

Join online communities and groups such as the Association of Photographers and the Royal Society of British Artists to connect with other artists and photographers. Collaborate on projects, share resources, and promote each other’s work.

5. Host giveaways and contests

Use social media to increase engagement and attract new customers.

6. Offer limited edition prints:

Create a sense of exclusivity by offering limited edition prints of your work. This will increase the perceived value of your art and make it more desirable to collectors.

7. Collect email addresses

Harvest contact addresses from your website and social media accounts and use them to send occasional newsletters and promotions.

8. Showcase your art in person:

Attend art fairs, exhibitions, and shows such as the Affordable Art Fair, The London Art Fair, and The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition to showcase your art and meet potential customers in person.

9. Use SEO:

Optimise your website, images, and online marketplaces for search engines to increase visibility and attract more visitors.

10. Offer discounts:

Offer discounts and promotions to attract new customers and increase sales.
